Youth Development Department is a holistic process that prepares young people to meet the challenges of adolescence and adulthood, enabling them to achieve their full potential. We emphasize on:
- Education: Encouraging youth to take their studies seriously and strive for continuous learning and growth.
- Personal development: helping youth develop a strong sense of ethics, empathy, and responsibility
The programme consists of three phases outlined below:
Phase 1: Skills Advancement Training (SAT)
Tateni Youth Development Department hosts a Skills Advancement Training (life skills) program once per quarter. We target 80 to 100 unemployed and out of school youth per annum. This 8-day program imparts essential life skills education to participants, addressing their specific needs and helping them develop practical, cognitive, emotional, social, and self-management skills for life adjustments.
Topics Covered During Skills Advancement Training:
- Who Am I?
- Building My Brand
- Managing Time
- Being More Resilient
- Creative Problem Solving and Decision Making
- Building Interpersonal Relationships
- Effective Communication
- Dealing with Conflict
- Understanding the World of Work (Work Readiness and Mock Interviews)
- Personal Development Plan
Through these comprehensive topics, we strive to equip our youth with the tools they need to succeed in both their personal and professional lives.
Phase 2: Basic Computer Training
We collaborate with reputable organisations that offer Basic computer training programs. Through these partnerships, we link beneficiaries to these organisations, ensuring they receive the best training available.
This opportunity enhances digital skills and open doors to new possibilities.
Phase 3: Addressing the needs of the Youth
Higher Institution
Tateni Youth Development Program includes academic assistance to encourage young individuals to improve their academic qualifications, be it Basic education or with higher institutions.
We assist with tertiary education registrations and provide academic support where needed.
Employment Opportunities
Through our partnerships with stakeholders we have opportunities to access learnerships, internships and employment opportunities.
We have a WhatsApp group where we share information on employment opportunities. We assist with online applications if they are still struggling.
Skills Development and Entrepreneurs
Tateni Youth Development Department’s mandate is to empower and encourage beneficiaries to break the cycle of poverty. We identify and refer individuals to relevant skills development programs, ensuring they receive the necessary training and support to succeed.
Through out their training journey, we provide consistence support and monitor their progress. When necessary, we also offer transportation fares to ensure they can fully participate in their development programs. Upon completion of their training, we conduct comprehensive assessment of their family backgrounds to determine their ability to afford business start-up kits. For those unable to make this purchase, we step in to provide the necessary start-up kits, helping them embark on their entrepreneurial journey with confidence and the resources they need to succeed.
Support Group
In response to the increasing demands and constraints faced by today’s youth, we have developed a platform to provide essential psycho-social support and counselling services. Our platform is designed to empower them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to self-manage their issues, including loneliness and self-esteem concerns.
The support groups focus on:
- Emotional Support: Providing a safe environment to share feelings and experiences.
- Sharing Experiences: Learning from others who have faced similar challenges.
- Practical Activities: Engaging in activities that promote well-being and coping strategies
- Education: Gaining insight and knowledge to better understand and manage personal issues.
We also offer One to One Support if one does not feel comfortable to share private information in a group setting.
Feedback Sessions
Once the beneficiaries went through all the three phases of the programme, we do a follow-up session once per quarter to get updates, evaluate impact of the program and provide required or necessary intervention to those who are still struggling.
